Flowers can reduce stress
We all know it makes us happy to receive flowers, just look at the faces of people who receive a floral gift.
But did you know that this has been backed up by a scientific study that has shown that certain flower scents can alter blood chemistry and reduce stress? Research by the Society of American Florists studied the emotions and behaviour of people who received flowers.
The research came to several conclusions:
- Flowers impact immediately on happiness. All study participants across all ages expressed "true" or "excited" smiles upon receiving flowers, demonstrating extraordinary delight and gratitude.
- Flowers have a long-term positive effect on moods. Study participants reported feeling less depressed, anxious and agitated after receiving flowers, and demonstrated a higher sense of enjoyment and life satisfaction.
- Flowers make intimate connections. The presence of flowers led to increased contact with family and friends.
- Flowers brighten up our lives. We’re often asked to stop and smell the roses’ when we’re stressed or anxious. Wise advice - and its backed up by science.
